Water, Water Everywhere
A forum on water issues in Northampton

JFK Middle School Community Room
100 Bridge Road, Florence
Thursday, May 15th
6:30-8:30 pm

Free and Open to the Public

The Northampton Department of Public Works and the Ward Three Neighborhood Association would like to invite you to a conversation about one of our most important resources, water.

How many times have we turned on the faucet or flushed the toilet without knowing where this water is coming from or where it is going? What are simple things that we can do to better use and protect the water we have?

Through a series of workshops, participants will take a closer look at current and future water use in Northampton.

Workshops include:

  • An overview of Northampton’s water systems and resources
  • YIMBY: Yes in my back yard, water management using water conservation, rain water catchment, compost bins and rain gardens
  • Wetlands 101
  • Ecological Wastewater Treatment
  • Emergency Flood Preparedness

Sponsored by the Northampton Department of Public Works and the Ward Three Neighborhood Association. For more information, please contact Lisa DePiano at dips@riseup.net or Karen Bouquillon at 413-587-1059

DPW Sponsors Distribution of Rain Barrels and Compost Bins

The Northampton Department of Public Works is currently taking orders for the “New England Rain barrel” and the “Earth Machine” compost bin.
Photographs and features of these products are included on the order form.

Northampton residents can pre-order rain barrels at $55 each and compost bins at $35 each. Non-residents may participate in this program without a discount ($65 per rain barrel and $40 per compost bin).

While there is no limit on the number of barrels or bins that can be ordered through this program, there is a limit of how many rain barrels and/or compost bins can fit into a passenger vehicle.

Order forms are available at the Locust Street Recycling Center and the DPW office (both at 125 Locust Street), the Landfill Recycling Center, and on the DPW website (www.northamptonma.gov/dpw).

The order form and payment (check or money order) must be received by the DPW no later than May 9th. The distribution will be held on Thursday, May 15th.
