Re: Update and Upcoming Meetings

I have been asked to inform everyone about two upcoming meetings that
will impact Ward 3. I hope folks will be able to attend these
sessions.

First, on Wednesday night, October 29th, some South Street neighbors
will be attending the Agriculture Commission meeting (at 6 p.m. on
the second floor of City Hall) to discuss the issue of vehicle access
to the Meadows and the accompanying dumping and illicit drug activity
that is occurring there. This is an important issue for the Ward 3
Meadows also, as we have lots of evidence of things happening there
that shouldn’t. Our cleanup this past Sunday resulted in a huge
dumpster full of all types of trash and debris thrown in the Meadows
by thoughtless and irresponsible individuals. If you’re concerned
about the safety and cleanliness of our Meadows, please try to make
this meeting.

The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. at
the Bridge Street School Library to discuss the Pleasant Street
Petroleum Cleanup Project. This project will occur near Fulton
Avenue and Conz Street, where gasoline leaked into the ground from
dispensers, distribution piping, and underground storage tanks that
were part of the former Staab Gas Station. The contaminated area
runs under Pleasant Street and on either side of the street.
Individuals will hear a presentation from Penney Engineering, Inc.,
the environmental consultants hired by the city to perform the
cleanup, and comments will be taken from residents.

In conclusion, I want to thank the hearty individuals and Cub Scouts
from Pack 103 at Jackson Street School who came together Sunday for
our Meadows cleanup. We are grateful to JC & Co. for loaning us a
truck and driver who went way above and beyond the call of duty
hauling stuff out of the Meadows, BNB Waste for donating use of a
dumpster to collect the trash, and Rick and Devin Clark for use of
their truck to help haul the debris. Councilor Bob Reckman secured
bags and gloves so we had the materials we needed. If you don’t think
people pollute our Meadows with trash, you just needed to see how
much we pulled out of this area on Sunday. Thanks to all who
participated.
