For the first time since 1999, the city’s race for mayor will not feature an incumbent. That year, Higgins won the first of six consecutive terms and succeeded four-term mayor Mary L. Ford.
As of now, Narkewicz will face Michael R. Bardsley, who served for 16 years on the council and is a former president, who announced on March 3 that he intended to seek the mayor’s office for the second time. Bardsley came within 344 votes of defeating Higgins in 2009.
