Register to Vote: October 14 Deadline

Saturday’s Gazette reports:

City residents have until Wednesday to register to vote and to make name, address or party changes for the Nov. 3 election. The Northampton Board of Registrars office [210 Main Street, regular weekday hours 8:30am-4:30pm, more information] will be open on Wednesday until 8 p.m. for that purpose.

Voter registration forms are available at the Northampton, Florence and Leeds post offices, the Forbes and Lilly libraries, and the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce on Pleasant Street. The registration forms must be received by the Registrar of Voters or postmarked on or before Oct. 14.

Voters can verify registration status and polling location by contacting the registrar’s office at 587-1290, or 587-1291.

In addition, absentee ballots are now available in the city clerk’s office for the Nov. 3 election.

Voters who will be absent from the city or during polling hours, which run from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., can vote in the city clerk’s office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voters can also apply for absentee ballots if they are physically disabled or are unable to vote at the polls for religious reasons. Absentee ballots will be mailed to voters upon written request.

The ballots may be returned by mail, or hand-delivered by the voter or a family member to the city clerk’s office on or before Nov. 3. The last day to apply for a ballot is Nov. 2 at noon. Anyone with questions should contact the city clerk’s office at 413-587-1224.
