On Tuesday at Hampshire County Superior Court, a grand Jury returned indictments related to the series of arson fires set in Northampton, Massachusetts on December 27, 2009. 25-year-old Anthony P. Baye of 85 Hawley Street was charged with 15 multiple count indictments, ranging from murder to the destruction of a snow globe…

The Dec. 27 fires shocked Northampton, triggering community meetings and Neighborhood Watch efforts, as well as fundraisers that to date have raised more than $83,000 for arson victims…
[Northwestern District Attorney Elizabeth] Scheibel said previously that one of the task force’s objectives would be to review not only the Dec. 27 fires but also several others around Northampton’s Ward 3 stretching back four years. There have been 15 suspicious fires in the neighborhood since February 2006, all of them unsolved.

Baye, a Northampton High School graduate, worked as a cook at several local restaurants. He is being held without right to bail at the Hampshire County House of Correction. Baye is scheduled to be arraigned in Hampshire Superior Court on March 8.
