Water Not Waste Seeks Signatures, Donations; August 5 Meeting

Water Not Waste has launched a campaign to put the following non-binding question on the November ballot:

“Shall the City of Northampton expand the Northampton landfill over the Barnes Aquifer?”

There will be an organizational meeting on Wednesday, August 5, 7:00pm at the Florence Community Center, 140 Pine Street.

Contributions are sought to defray the cost of this effort, which aims to collect at least 2,000 signatures from registered voters of Northampton. Checks should be payable to Water Not Waste and mailed to:

To get the question on the ballot, supporters must now collect the signatures of 10 percent, or about 1,800, of the city’s registered voters. Petition backers can begin collecting those signatures Monday.

At Thursday’s City Council meeting, Bardsley and LaBarge presented a resolution, at the request of a group of residents, that calls on councilors to place the nonbinding question on the ballot asking voters: “Shall the City of Northampton expand the Northampton landfill over the Barnes Aquifer?”
