Operation Clean Sweep: Volunteers Needed for Saturday Morning, April 18

Mayor Clare Higgins is circulating the following announcement:

OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP
Volunteers Needed

In an effort to spruce up Downtown Northampton, the Mayor’s Office and the Chamber are organizing a Clean Sweep Day on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 7AM – 10 AM.

Volunteers will gather at 7:00 AM on Saturday, April 18th in the center of downtown (at the Arts Council kiosk near the corner of Main and Gothic Streets). Free parking is available in all municipal parking lots (does not include the garage) until 11 AM that day.

Volunteers will tackle sweeping the sidewalks, weeding, picking up litter, and removing tape and posters from the poles. Please bring a broom and work gloves if you have them. Coffee will be available for all volunteers.

Volunteers are needed for all tasks. Advanced Registration appreciated but not required. For more information or registration, call the Mayor’s office at 587-1249 or the Chamber at 584-1900.

Important Notice about Parking During Clean Sweep


DPW will sweep Downtown streets the night before. There will be a parking ban in Downtown on Main Street and all side streets from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday April 18. Free parking will be available in all municipal parking lots (not including the garage) beginning at 6pm on Friday, April 17 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday the 18th. All 15-minute on-street parking spaces will remain open for parking on the morning of April 18 for quick stops to the coffee and bake shops!
